Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. 

Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements and is a wonderful way to express oneself.

  • Beginner Contemporary

    Ages: 7–11

    This class introduces young dancers to the fundamentals of contemporary dance in a creative and supportive environment. Students will explore movement concepts such as balance, coordination, flexibility, musicality, and self-expression while learning basic contemporary techniques. Through across-the-floor exercises, improvisation activities, and age-appropriate choreography, dancers will develop body awareness, confidence, and artistic expression while building a strong foundation for future dance training.

  • Intermediate Contemporary

    Ages: 11+

    This class builds on foundational contemporary dance techniques while challenging dancers to further develop strength, flexibility, control, and artistry. Dancers will explore more complex movement combinations, floor work, musicality, and emotional expression through exercises and choreography. Emphasis is placed on technique, performance quality, and developing confidence as a versatile and expressive dancer.

    Prerequisites: ballet, jazz, or modern training

  • Advanced Contemporary

    Ages:12+

    Designed for experienced dancers, this class focuses on advanced contemporary technique, artistry, and performance. Dancers will refine their strength, flexibility, control, and movement quality while exploring complex choreography, floor work, improvisation, and dynamic movement patterns. Emphasis is placed on musicality, emotional expression, versatility, and developing a strong individual artistic voice. This class challenges dancers both technically and creatively, preparing them for advanced performance and pre-professional training opportunities.
